Railcare’s board has decided to wind down its UK operations following a sustained decline in contracting volumes. The process begins immediately, with existing projects to be completed.

The company stated that reduced government funding has limited maintenance volumes in recent years. According to CEO Mattias Remahl, the increase in activity required to maintain profitable operations in the UK has not materialised.

Railcare will assess options to lease out machines currently based in the UK as part of the wind-down.

The Swedish contractor entered the British market in 2013 through Railcare Sweden Ltd and established an operational base in Derby.
