The agreement, valued at approximately EUR 263m, covers 10 five-car EMUs with an option for 10 additional units, with entry into service planned for early 2028.

The Marshal’s Office of the Greater Poland Province has signed a contract with Stadler for up to 20 FLIRT electric multiple units for regional and agglomeration services.

The vehicles will be manufactured in Poland at Stadler’s Siedlce plant. Design work will be carried out by Stadler Polska’s engineering teams, including its Poznań office, which currently employs around 50 of the company’s 100 engineers in Poland. Stadler plans to recruit a further 20 engineers this year.

Each five-car FLIRT will accommodate up to 632 passengers, including 266 seated, and will operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The units will feature a high proportion of low-floor space, wide entrance areas and full accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility, including wheelchair users, passengers with prams and cyclists.

The trains will be equipped with ETCS Level 2, air conditioning, CCTV, a passenger information system, wireless internet access, defibrillators and emergency intercoms. Stadler states that the aluminium bodyshell reduces vehicle weight, contributing to lower energy consumption and operating costs compared with steel-bodied designs.

FLIRT is Stadler’s highest-volume platform, with more than 3,000 vehicles sold in 24 countries. In Poland, the type is operated by Koleje Mazowieckie, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna, Koleje Śląskie and PKP Intercity.

Stadler has operated in Poland since 2006 and employs more than 2,000 staff across production plants in Siedlce, Środa Wielkopolska and Białystok, as well as engineering offices in Poznań, Siedlce and Warsaw and service centres in Łódź and Sochaczew.
