Lokaltog A/S has exercised an option in the contract signed in October 2024 to order ten more battery-powered FLIRT Akku trains from Stadler.

The new vehicles will join Lokaltog's fleet in 2029.

"I am very pleased with Region Zealand's decision to purchase additional trains. These battery-powered trains are extremely important for Lokaltog's contribution to the green transition, and at the same time they will make our operations more robust," says Lars Wrist-Elkjær, CEO of Lokaltog.

The Stadler FLIRT Akku trains can operate up to 100 kilometres purely on battery power and recharge automatically under overhead lines or through regenerative braking. In 2021, an FLIRT Akku train set a Guinness World Record by travelling 224 kilometres on a single battery charge without recharging. In Europe, Stadler currently holds a 50% market share in the battery-powered train segment.

"With this additional order, we will deliver a total of 24 modern, emission-free FLIRT Akku — a proven solution that provides zero-emission operations without compromising reliability or passenger comfort," said Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska plant in Siedlce, where the vehicles will be built.

The ten new FLIRT Akku units are scheduled to enter service on Lokaltog’s regional routes in Region Zealand in the first half of 2029. They will replace the IC2 vehicles, which have been operating in Denmark since 1997.
