The extension will improve the connection between southern Germany and RCG's international TransNET for companies from various sectors. It also strengthens the logistics chains of many companies in Central and South-Eastern Europe. Hazardous goods transport in accordance with RID can also be handled.
The main TransFER route runs from Salzburg to Augsburg and Ulm, with a continuous connection to Salzburg in the opposite direction. In Ulm, goods can either be distributed directly with a connecting railway or - if there is no industrial siding - delivered and collected via the nearby transhipment hub in Ummendorf.
The hub in Ummendorf is designed to optimise the transfer between rail and road. A wide variety of goods - with the exception of containers and logs - are handled on some 2,000 metres of track. Handling takes place both under cover and in the open air. Special handling is also available for paper rolls, heavy plates and coils. Storage takes place on an area of approximately 5,000 square metres. Additional truck transport is available for the first and last mile, according to RCG reports.
