Oana Gherghinescu graduated from the University of Craiova, Romania, where she obtained first a Bachelor's degree in Banking and Finance, then a Master's degree in Businees Administration and Management. She holds a PhD in International Economics.
She first joined the European Commission as a trainee in 2004. Since 2013, she has been working in various positions at ERA. Both Paloma Iribas Forcat, Chairwoman of the ERA Governing Board, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, appreciated her skills.

The Management Board selection process was concluded in Lille last week. The next step is for the selected candidate to make a presentation to the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN). This is currently expected to take place on 9 April 2025, and their appointment as Executive Director will follow. The actual start date remains to be confirmed.
