The transport was managed under a tolling agreement between Liberty Ostrava and Donquixote, in cooperation with logistics firms TRAINLOG and Rail STM.
The train with cargo from Kazakhstan, operated on the corridor from Poland through the Chalupki/Bohumín border crossing to Ostrava Bartovice, was hauled by a single MAXIMA 40CC locomotive. The total weight of the train, including wagons, reached 3,900 tons.
Freight transport and operational considerations
Rail transport was used as an alternative to road haulage, preventing approximately 130 trucks from making the same journey. The operation aligns with wider trends in freight transport, where heavy loads are shifted to rail for long-distance movements.
Liberty Ostrava has also been utilizing natural gas in its production process for long steel products. This shift has been implemented despite economic challenges, with an emphasis on emission reduction.
Over the past months, the company has resumed operations at its rolling mill, producing more than 50,000 tons of reinforcing steel. The facility had been inactive for a year before restarting production.
