Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has renewed its logistics partnership with voestalpine Rohstoffbeschaffung and Logistik Service (LogServ).
The logistics arrangement supports operations at voestalpine’s Linz and Leoben-Donawitz sites, focusing on rail transport for both inbound raw materials—such as iron ore, hot briquetted iron (HBI), coke, coal, and scrap—and outbound finished goods, including steel coils, heavy plates, and sheets. The transport volume for these materials forms part of a logistics package totalling almost 30 million tonnes.
Rail as a central component of industrial logistics
LogServ, a subsidiary of voestalpine Stahl, manages the shipment of finished steel products from the Linz site, where more than 5 million tonnes of steel products are produced annually. Rail plays a key role in these operations, accounting for a significant portion of the distribution and supply chain. Similarly, the supply of raw materials to Linz is facilitated by voestalpine Rohstoffbeschaffung.
In addition to its rail logistics operations, LogServ oversees Austria’s largest connecting railway at the Linz site and operates its own Danube port with transshipment facilities. Its subsidiary, Cargo Service (CargoServ), serves as a private railway transport provider, offering rail solutions on the public network.
