A freight train carrying toxic benzene missed a signal in the early evening on Monday, ran into a dead end, and then hit a stop sign.

The collision derailed the locomotive and two tankers. Two persons from the freight train were injured in the accident. Initially, the damage at the accident site was estimated at CZK 4 million (1.5 track, 2.5 train). Traffic on the line had to be stopped.

Firefighters used 20 bottles of nitrogen to pump out the hazardous materials. The locomotive will be cut up and disposed of on-site. For further work, it is necessary to dismantle the noise barriers and temporarily remove the traction lines above the vehicles.

The Rail Safety Inspection Office launched its own investigation into the incident, including the preparation of a final report. The investigation of the incident is only at the beginning, but already at this moment seems to be confirmed that the train passed behind a signal prohibiting movement. Further causes and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation by the Rail Safety Inspection Office.
