With 410 trains, DB is deploying its largest ever fleet of ICE trains for the European Championships. Despite the increased demand, there are still enough seats available if reservations are made in good time.
Michael Peterson, DB Board Member for Long-distance Passenger Transport, says: "Never before has there been so much rail travel at an international football tournament as at this European Championship. We are delighted that 160,000 fan tickets have been sold. The team with the most train journeys in the current group stage is Switzerland."
At the venues, the following applies: Each match ticket is automatically combined with a 36-hour public transport ticket (KombiTicket) - from 06:00 on the day of the match until 18:00 on the following day. The ticket is valid throughout the entire transport network of the host city, i.e. far beyond the boundaries of the host city and into the surrounding area. DB Regio carries around 3.5 million passengers on its buses and trains every day.
DB Regio Transport Director Evelyn Palla explains: "Anything that can roll rolls with us. 150,000 DB employees do their best to ensure that trains and buses run reliably for our passengers. We would like to thank all our employees for their great commitment. And we would like to thank all our passengers for showing respect for our staff."
DB has set up special welcome desks at stations in the host cities of Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. Around 300 passenger guides and some 16,000 UEFA volunteers, as well as a special guide, will be on hand to help fans find their way around. In cooperation with the cities, DB will mark the direct routes from the stations to the stadiums and public viewing areas, for example with floor posters. On match days, 5,000 additional cleaning staff will work extra shifts at over 100 stations. Around 3,000 technicians are on standby to ensure that any problems with escalators and lifts are rectified immediately. DB is also creating additional locker capacity in and around the stations.
