Train–truck collision in Poland leaves one dead

Rail traffic on line 354 between Poznań and Piła was suspended on 25 May following a collision between a passenger train and a heavy goods vehicle near Rogoźno Wielkopolskie. One person died and more than a dozen were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred shortly after 15:00 at a level crossing in Garbatka, on the section between Rogoźno Wielkopolskie and Oborniki Wielkopolskie. Train 77946, operating from Rogoźno to Poznań Główny, struck a truck that subsequently caught fire. The fire also spread to nearby grassland.

According to the Wielkopolska Regional Headquarters of the State Fire Service, several dozen passengers were on board. One fatality was confirmed at the scene, while over a dozen people sustained injuries.

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe reported that rail traffic between Oborniki Wielkopolskie and Rogoźno was completely halted. The passenger operator advised that delays and timetable changes were expected on the Poznań–Piła corridor.

Emergency response involved 11 units of the State and Volunteer Fire Services, medical rescue teams and air ambulance helicopters. Firefighting, site protection and medical assistance operations were ongoing, with police and the railway accident investigation commission examining the circumstances of the collision.
